Dear friends,

I would like to invite you to join a live Communion Service onAscension Day, Thursday 21 May, at 7pm. This will be a joint service for the Richmond Deanery and it would be wonderful to have each Benefice represented!

We will be using Zoom and the link is given at the foot of this message. You will be welcome to sign in at any time from 6:45.

The words of the service are shown in the first attachment, with the Readings also attached. We will include a hymn, ‘Hail the day that sees him rise, for which the words are attached.

There will be a separate podcast of the Reflectionavailable on our website: https://www.richmondhudswellparish.org.uk/Latest-Resources-Podcasts , by Revd Mark Beresford-Peirse. During the service he will be giving a summary as a ‘homily’.

With the ‘Zoom experience’ for multiple participants working best if everyone without a speaking part mutes their microphone we will do this at the start of the service.

During the service please keep your microphone on mute, even when we are saying together the words marked ‘All’ in the attached order of service.

Before 7pm, as you join the service, your microphone will be open to enable conversation if you wish.

At the end of the service all are welcome to stay for conversation.

Regrettably and self-evidently, only I will be able to receive the consecrated bread and wine. However, I will do so on behalf of us all. The rest of us will be making a ‘Spiritual Communion’, of which a summary is offered in the Introduction in the attached order of service. In essence:

“if we offer ourselves in penitence and faith, giving thanks for the redemption won by Christ crucified, we may truly ‘eat and drink the Body and Blood of our Saviour Christ’, although we cannot receive the sacrament physically in ourselves”.

Our liturgy provides for this and includes special prayers which acknowledge that we will be receiving the sacrament spiritually rather than physically.

I look forward to seeing you at the service.

 Blessings,

Martin
