St Agaths's Easby

History

Set in the shadow of Easby Abbey, St. Agatha's is famous for its 13th century wall paintings, probably the finest in North Yorkshire. There is a replica of the Easby Cross, the original now in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London is described by Pevsner as "the finest piece of Anglo Saxon sculpture in the county".

St Agatha was founded on a site that has been a holy place for centuries and there is a real sense of God’s presence in our well-maintained church with beautiful grounds. The marvellous Medieval wall paintings take your breath away!

Facilities

St Agatha's church, is a place of celebration and a place where we mark the special events of life. We worship in the church four times a year for special services, Our Annual Celebration and thanksgiving for the people of the Church and the parish in February, Palm Sunday, Easter Eve and Easter Morning, Advent, where we bless the tree, and Christmas morning, where we stand in the footsteps of those who have gone before us to celebrate the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The church of St Agatha in Easby is an extremely popular wedding venue; it has a seating capacity (in normal times) of more than 150. The church has level access and is just a short distance from the nearby small public car park.
